The Hills of Shady Grove was developed by Herb and Judy Stehling.  Other successful subdivisions they’ve developed in the Burnet - Kingsland - Marble Falls area are Heritage Valley in Burnet, and Beaver Island and Bridgepoint on Lake LBJ. Owners are enjoying increasing property values in all these subdivisions.

Our Story

Herb and Judy Stehling are lifelong residents of Central Texas, which explains their love for this beautiful countryside.  Born and raised in nearby Fredericksburg, they grew up in a small town where everyone knew one another and built fond memories together.  That’s the kind of atmosphere they’ve instilled in every subdivision they developed.

The Hills of Shady Grove is a place where children play outdoors late into the evenings without their parents having to worry about their safety.  It’s where neighbors know and respect each other.  It has become exactly what the Stehlings envisioned—small town perfection.

I obtained my real estate license in 1985, and have extensive knowledge of the area. I grew up on Lake LBJ, where my family was in the resort business. I strive to share my love of this area with others, while making their real estate experience a positive one. The Hills of Shady Grove was developed by my parents, Herb and Judy Stehling, so it is a special place for me. I truly believe it is the best (and prettiest!) place to build or own a home in Burnet - give me a call, I'll meet you there and show you around!

Herb Stehling

Founder, The Hills of Shady Grove

I was born and raised in Fredericksburg, but after returning from my Army tour of duty, I moved to Lake LBJ.  This was in 1959, shortly after the lake was created through a series of dams on the Colorado River.  I built a small resort and enjoyed watching families and fisherman having a great time there until I sold it in 1972.  Then I thought about other ways to introduce folks to life on the lake and the relaxed lifestyle, and set about developing Hill Country subdivisions.  The Hills of Shady Grove is the fourth neighborhood my wife and I have built.  We think it’s special and hope you do too.
